At The Clear Choice Plumbing & Heating Inc, we are dedicated to providing good service and we believe good service includes saving you as much money as possible. So before you call a plumber to fix your disposal unit, take a moment to ensure that it is actually broken. Many times plumbers are called to your home at a minimum charge and you will find out it was a simple fix that you could have easily done on your own. Below is a list of the common things we, as plumbers, run into with disposal units.
- The breaker has tripped – head over to your breaker panel and check to make sure the breaker has not been tripped or turned off.
- The unit needs to be reset – to reset a unit simply look at the bottom of the unit and you should see a red button, push it in and if you hear a click chances are you have solved the issue.
- The unit has jammed – to remedy this, you will first need to turn the power off at the breaker panel and then unplug the unit. Take a look inside the chamber of the unit and see if anything solid is jammed in the blades, if so carefully try to remove the object. If you cannot see anything in the chamber look to the underside of the unit, there will be a small hole in the center, you can insert a hex wrench into the hole to manually turn the blades.
If you try these three things and your garburator is still not working, please call The first Choice Plumbing & Heating Inc. to service or replace your unit.
